Internet College Courses - Why Online College is So Much Better

Internet College Courses enrollment has been rising at about 30% per year over the last 7 years. So why are people flocking out of the classrooms and onto the internet to get a college education?

This article is going to talk about some of the things that make internet college courses so much better than normal classroom college courses.

You learn on your time
As a college student myself, I can't tell you how much time is wasted in classrooms learning at someone else's pace. Many times the instructors ramble aimlessly without even covering material that appears on the exams anyway.

So what's the point of attending class? The instructor rambles about nonsense and I could learn more on my own. Because many classic institutions still take attendance and will actually fail you if you miss too many classes.

This is a great reason why you should consider internet college classes. There's no attendance and you can learn on your time and not your instructor's.

Student-centered learning
Many online college courses place heavy emphasis on student-centered learning by using forums and message boards to get the students involved. The instructor will oversee and moderate the forums, but in order to make a good grade you must participate on the online discussions.

This is great for many people who don't like to speak up in class. It is much easier to type out an intelligent message and communicate with individuals that are truly interested in learning. Which leads me to my last point...

Online Students are more mature
Online students are usually older, more experienced and learned in the field they are taking internet college courses for, and this provides much more intelligent and mature online discussions.

On the other end, many college students are fresh out of high school and are only attending the college campus because that is what their parents wanted them to do after they graduated.

The Ouija Board: Communication with Devils

Larry Wessels, Director of Christian Answers of Austin, Texas (see websites: BIBLEQUERY ORG, HISTORYCART COM & MUSLIMHOPE COM) is joined in radio studio by Dr. Edmond C. Gruss, author of the book, "The Ouija Board, A Doorway to the Occult," who is Professor Emeritus at The Master's College, Santa Clarita, California. He is also author of "Cults and the Occult," "Apostles of Denial: An Examination and Expose of the History, Doctrines & Claims of the Jehovah's Witnesses," "The Jehovah's Witnesses and Prophetic Speculation," and several other books on the cults and the occult. Normal "Christian Answers Live!" radio show hosts Lee Meckley & Jim Toungate, Jr. also participate. William Fuld of Baltimore is usually credited with the invention of the Ouija board. But if a patent establishes priority, Elijah Bond is the inventor since he first filed for a patent on May 28, 1890 (which was granted on Febuary 10, 1891). Bond even called his invention the "Ouija or Egyptian luck-board." In 1920 Colonel Washington Bowie, a former partner in the Kennard Novelty Company, testified that there were two other possible contenders for the invention of the Ouija board: EC Reichie & CW Kennard. According to Bowie, Reichie was a cabinetmaker living in Chestertown, Maryland, in 1890. Although not a spiritualist himself, he was acquainted with table-rapping & "noticed sympathetically that a large table was a heavy thing for a frail spirit to juggle about [so] ... he devised a little table - the ...

Your Christian Homeschooling Options

You have probably contemplated many reasons to homeschool your children. Some of your reasons may revolve around medical problems, lifestyle, or a better education. Christian homeschooling is another choice that is becoming more and more popular. Parents like the idea of supervising their own children's learning and encouraging Christian values along the way.

While absolute values are on the decline in public education, you have the opportunity to teach right from home in your homeschool. If you are a Christian and considering Christian homeschooling, you may want to think about a few things. First of all, if the intolerance of your religious preference in public school is troubling you, this might be a good decision. You have the freedom in your home to teach about God and the Bible along with your daily instruction. You don't have to worry about saying "God" and being criticized.

On the other hand, this may not be a great enough reason to homeschool your children. When a child's beliefs are practiced in a school setting, they can learn how to interact with others who are non-Christians. They can also be a good example to others and show them what Christians are really like.

There are also Christian private schools that use Christian teachings and doctrines in their curriculum. However, these types of schools are usually expensive. This makes the choice of Christian homeschooling a rational decision.

Other motives for homeschooling your children may be because of unsafe schools, or not wanting your children to change school after school if your family is in the military. If you find that your reasoning for homeschooling fits into a couple of categories, it is definitely an option you might want to consider.

If want to homeschool your children, Christian homeschooling is a great option, especially if you want to instill values into their education. There are many support groups that can help you decide on curriculum. Some support groups can help you determine how to help your children socialize, while others support you emotionally.

Single Christian Men

Online dating and personals websites allow an individual to search for a partner according to age, race, religion, and location. Many of the searches are based on either race or religion. A sizeable amount of these searches are directed at the section that features single Christian men. A woman browsing through this section usually looks for a true follower of Christianity. She believes that a Christian is a true believer in God and therefore a good person at heart. Women usually tend to look for religious partners because they believe they will have a better chance at a lasting relationship because of common beliefs and values.

Christian women who are regulars to the church usually don't enjoy hanging out at bars or discos to search for dates. These women therefore use the church's personals' services or a Christian dating service to search for eligible single Christian men. Websites devoted to Christian singles are considered safer than the general dating websites, which may be frequented by persons with sinister motives. Another major reason for searching through online Christian dating services is the chances of meeting more men there compared to at church. In recent years, it has been noted that very few single men regularly visit church. The websites therefore offer a greater chance for meeting eligible single Christian men.

Many of the personals websites featuring a single Christian men section have additional subcategories devoted to the different sections in Christianity. These include Baptist, Catholic, Protestant, Methodist, and Lutheran. Here, the devotional nature of the man is counted more than his physical attributes. A woman looking for a suitable partner may however be attracted to a person with a good sense of humor. In most cases, educational background and social status also play a key role in choosing the right partner. The single Christian men section is also subcategorized according to country, region, and community. A woman can therefore have choices such as single Christian black men, single Christian Latin men, and so on. Since religion and values are one of the top criteria women look for in a partner, Christian women who search online for Christian men are able to focus in on finding and meeting men with these same values.

Michael Job Center for Orphan Girls - Coimbatore, India

www.michaeljobcenter.com The Michael Job Center was started in 2001 by Dr. PP Job, an internationally known Evangelist, Preacher and Mission worker to the persecuted church. The home was built in memory of Dr. Job's 21 year old son, Michael, who was martyred in India because of his fathers' Christian activities. In 1999 an attempt was made on Dr. Job's life by radical Hindus in India, who did not like his Christian work and influence. Then in June of the same year, following the failed attempt on his life, the angry radicals retaliated and killed Dr. Job's son Michael by running him down with a car where he studied at a medical school. At his son's funeral, Dr. Job proclaimed, "[Losing my son] was like having my right arm cut off. But I will still serve God with my left arm." The following year, a plot of land was donated in Coimbatore for a possible future orphanage. With no idea of God's planning, Dr. Job proceeded to accept the small, seemingly worthless plot which didn't even have fresh water (salt water only), and no access to electricity. A home was erected and 30 children of persecuted and martyred Christians were taken in. Shortly after, God miraculously provided fresh water, full electricity and enough concrete to build a large chapel, and a school building! In time, as God provided and expanded Dr. Job's vision, adjoining plots of land were secured, and a 5 acre soccer stadium was added. Within 4 years, the Center stands as a testimony of God's incredible love ...

Christian Homeschool Curriculum - How to Decide

As a Christian homeschooling parent, how do you go about determining which method of teaching is best for your family, or what lessons you should be teaching, and at what speed? Now that you've made the decision to begin homeschooling your children, are you still doing things the way they were done in your child's public school? In other words, are you "homeschooling", or having "school at home"?

Many parents, when they begin to set up their Christian homeschool, end up doing things the way they were done in the child's previous school, simply because that's all they are familiar with. Now that's fine, if that's what you want to do. But for your children to really be equipped for life, you should really take advantage of the benefits of what homeschooling will permit you to accomplish. Basically what that means is that you, and no one else, gets to choose your objectives and goals for your Christian homeschool, and you get to set the pace in relation to your children's specific needs.

One of the biggeset challenges that most homeschoolers discover is in making a schedule for their homeschool. Some parents use various homeschool software programs, others write their notes in notebooks or on sticky notes plastered everywhere. Some take things one day at a time, some plan for a week, month, or even a year in advance, and some simply don't make any plans at all. Whatever will be, will be. There's no right or wrong way to do it, and that's the beauty of homeschooling. Each family, each child, each mom/teacher is different, and so you do what you are comfortable with.

However, when it comes to putting together your Christian homeschooling curriculum [http://www.christianhomeschool.myreviewsandtips.com/what-to-teach-in-your-christian-homeschool.html], it becomes much easier, and less stressful, when you make a yearly plan of school objectives and goals. Depending on the goals you have set for you school year, it will be much easier to determine what homeschooling curriculum you will need to help you accomplish those goals.

Since no one knows your child better than you do, it is important that the goals you set be based on his/her capabilities. As your children get older, you can get them more involved in the goal-making process. Asking questions about what they would like to learn, where would they like to go, what projects they would love to work on, etc. will help make your yearly curriculum selection process that much easier.

Seven Indicators of a Genuine Christian

Spiritual development is a necessity in genuine Christianity. This is because genuine Christianity is a live organism. And any live organism needs to grow, to develop. This kind of Christianity develops spiritually.

How can you distinguish between a genuine Christian and a nominal Christian?

If you do not have the Spirit of Jesus it is impossible to distinguish between a real Christian and a nominal Christian. Both may speak the same language, dress in the same way, go to the same church, perform the same religious activities, play the same sport, live in the same neighborhood or subdivision.

But one is alive-the genuine Christian, the other is dead-the nominal one, in the life of the Spirit. The first is heading to the joys of heaven, the latter to the torments in hell.

The following indicators therefore are not external criteria by which we can segregate the genuine Christians from the nominal ones. They are indicators which we can reflect upon and search within ourselves to discern whether we are genuine or nominal Christians.

Of course, the elements in these indicators naturally and normally surface in the lives of people who are genuine Christians. But again their manifestations can be imitated by the ingenious nominal Christian.

For example, we may think that a person who devotes one hour every day faithfully in praying while kneeling in a church has a personal, growing love for Jesus. Such may be very deceptive. It may be true that indeed he has a personal, growing love for Jesus. It may also be true, as Jesus once commented, that he is pretending to pray long prayers in the hope of devouring the houses of widows. The Pharisees were performing long prayers but Jesus told us they were not following him; they rejected him.

While it is true that there are millions of Christians who are satisfied and comfortable with their nominal Christianity, there are a few though who sense that their lives lack something which they may not be able to pinpoint out or even vaguely describe. For these few the indicators described here may help them reflect on their lives and motivate them to search how to live a genuine Christian life.

It may also happen that a nominal Christian reading these indicators may come to the realization that what he has been presuming all along his life, namely, that he is a real Christian, is an illusion. Upon knowing this he may want to move from nominal to genuine Christianity.

These indicators are to be taken as an integrated whole set of indicators, not each one separately. If an indicator is missing, most probably the person is not a genuine Christian.

Here are the seven indicators.

1. The person has experienced God speaking to him personally, either through a preacher, a book, or other circumstance.

2. The person has experienced listening to an explanation of the Bible or reading it such that he felt his mind was opened. His reaction is: Now I know, whereas before I did not realize this was the meaning. If he is literate he has experienced a thirst for reading God's word. If he is non-literate he has experienced a thirst for listening to the reading of God's word.

3. The genuine Christian has a personal, growing love for the person of Jesus the Christ, talking with him with more and more time of his day.

4. He has a certain or sure conviction of the forgiveness of his sins, whether past, present or future. He has no fear of being punished.

5. He has a complete distrust in his works as a means of pleasing God.

6. He has a deep and growing love for other genuine Christians and he seeks out their company.

7. He has a compassionate love for the non-Christians and the nominal Christians and desires to bring them to genuine Christian life.

The Christian Life & Women's Issues

As an effect of sin, humans are deeply driven toward autonomy, preferring to live independent of God's authority instead of within the shelter of his divine sovereignty. This is the temptation to which Eve would surrender. Instead of a life dependent on God, she evaluated on the basis of her self-appointed authority that the fruit of the forbidden tree was beautiful and an acceptable source for knowledge and sustenance. God was no longer necessary in her new view of the world because she chose instead to believe the twisted words of the serpent, that she could "be like God" (Gen 3:5). She quickly dismissed the distinction between herself, the created, and the Creator.

When faced with difficult life circumstances, we are called to submit to God's wisdom and authority and recognize our own insufficiency. It is true that scripture does not provide explicit answers for each and every situation, so while God's normative method of self-disclosure is not through audible voice, studying God's word is necessary to develop a biblical worldview that will enable godly reflection in the absence of obvious solutions. Trusting God in the midst of any degree of crisis is probably one of the the greatest challenges to living the Christian life.

Popular culture argues, on the other hand, that God, if he even exists, is irrelevant to just about everything. Religion, and specifically evangelical Christianity, is regarded as bigoted and narrow-minded, outside the scope of logic and reason. Christian truth claims are viewed as merely private values, but the "promise" of scientific progress and "hope" through human reason-with little room for ethical reflection-are believed to be neutral sources of information, and therefore, the source of truth for everyone. This way of thinking is dominant in the area of women's issues and is wielding great influence on the lives of women inside and outside of the church.

When biblical and theological reflection on women's issues is tolerated, it is usually through a theology of liberation known as feminist theology. This theology seeks primarily to free women from the oppression of what they describe as patriarchalism, referring to male headship or authority that demands unquestioned female submission. In this context, feminist theology argues that women are not really free due to an imbalance of power. This experience then becomes the interpretive grid to understand revelation, rather than revelation interpreting experience

Locating the meaning of scripture in one's own experience is the equivalent of dethroning God, taking his seat, and wearing his crown. It is an approach that fails to recognize God's authority over his entire creation, the exact problem Eve encountered as she replaced the revealed word of God with her own rationalizations. Our experiences can only describe how we live, they certainly do not prescribe how to live. Yet, this is not a matter of cold hard facts about the nature of God. God is the source of all that is true, he transcends all that is in the earth, yet he cares deeply about it and is closer than it may seem. Scripture reveals that our experiences do matter to God, he cares deeply about the problems we face and solutions we find.

At the core of "women's issues" is a long list of topics that matter to women. The list includes access to abortion, conception and contraception, careers, gender equity in the workplace, end-of-life health care, domestic violence and human trafficking. All issues of great significance to the every day lives of women, yet for the most part, not a part of the evangelical discussion within the walls of the church. Of course, there is a strong Christian voice in defense of the unborn and for the moral status of the embryo-and this voice needs to continue its bold proclamation. As well, there is an appropriate voice reacting against the ideology of secular feminism, a voice that rightly shows how this worldview fails women spiritually and in all other practical ways. What has been lacking, however, is a proactive voice intentionally educating women on these and related issues, a voice that teaches women to think through complicated life issues from a Christian worldview. Organizations like the National Organization for Women, the Feminist Majority, and NARAL have been declared by the dominant culture to be the source for addressing women's issues and equipping women to live triumphantly in this "patriarchal" society. The Christian community is quick to provide a response to these organizations and issues, but little education has been directed to the women in the pew, women of all ages, ethnicities and economic levels who have been or are potentially swayed by the seductive gospel of unfettered "women's rights."

It is erroneous to believe that with the assurance of salvation comes the instant ability to effectively reason through issues and achieve resolutions that are pleasing to God. The status of "born again" is not a guarantee that a young woman won't consider an abortion, because the dominant culture may have convinced her that the embryo is not really her child or that this is not actually a spiritual issue. A financially-strapped college student may have little knowledge of what is involved in selling her eggs, as an act of good-will to an infertile couple or for research purposes. She may not understand that this egg, when fertilized, is her biological child. What she has been told by the college "women's center" is that the egg is nothing more than tissue and a fertilized egg (an embryo) is nothing more than a "clump of cells." To top all that off, she probably has not been fully informed about the health risks in undergoing such a procedure.

A young married couple in the congregation may struggle with infertility and is willing to pursue the use of reproductive technologies to solve their heart-wrenching crisis. After three years of treatment, they may have 2 children, but four more children are in cryopreservation at the fertility clinic because the most economical route for their family was to have many embryos fertilized at one time. Still, there are other women who are entering into the Christian community, ashamed to talk to anyone about the abusive relationship they are in, fearing judgment, blame, and ridicule.

Right or wrong, women in the church are no less immune to the ideas of culture than are women outside of the church. When they hear "women's issues" or "women's rights," their attention is easily drawn toward these prominent voices as their message has completely saturated the culture we live in. There is no natural inclination toward a voice in the church, because that voice is difficult to locate. The fact is, women's issues are, indeed, women's issues, and the church is in a strategic and unique position to address them.

A Barna research study has recently reported that 60% of all who attend church are women, and around 25% of those attend church without their husbands. One reaction to this study was to point out the obvious, that few men are coming to church. Why? The church has been "feminized." The music, the paint, the activities-they simply aren't masculine enough, so men are staying home. As a result, some have decided that the solution is to de-feminize the church. Plan manly hunting trips, sports activities, and offer more of the older hymns that are obviously more masculine than the praise songs.

The motivation to have more men as members of the body of Christ is right and good, yet strangely, misguided. Please allow me to explain. God is pleased by the fact that so many women are attending church, giving freely of themselves financially, engaged in ministry activity, and so on. Women are present and eager to hear what the Lord has to teach them and how to apply it to their lives.

Young women, who are the next generation of mothers and leaders of all types, are there too, but often not very comfortable with the women's ministry of their mothers and grandmothers. Granted, few women's ministries are addressing "women's issues" proactively, but the young women are entering into youth group and college groups with little contextual opportunity to inquire or learn about these issues that will play a significant role in their lives far into the future. The church has a real opportunity to challenges the ideas of a culture fixated on being a god unto themselves by reaching the women the culture seeks to influence. That 60% of the church is comprised of women should be regarded as a call to a particular ministry; we can see positively that the glass is half full!

As women continue to be the primary caregivers of children and parents while also being a witness to great technological advancement, time must be invested in developing women to reflect on all of life through the lenses of faith. Grandmothers who believe that their grandchildren would have been better off aborted rather than going through the foster care system before arriving at her doorstep is not representative of a consistently applied Christian ethic, and yet this is the reality of a real woman who has professed faith in Christ for many years.

The desire for love, companionship, or children can drive any woman to solutions that do not necessarily cohere with godly wisdom, especially when the voices that he been assisting her in thinking about these issues have primarily belonged to secular feminism. The feminist movement in the early 20th century began with the noble pursuit to obtain for women the right to vote and to gain a substantive voice in society. Little of this noble effort remains in secular feminism, known today chiefly for its fight for unfettered reproductive freedoms. Secular feminism has been a lone voice for women in academics and in popular culture for the better part of the last 100 years. In a real sense, they have been women mentoring other women. For women in the church, now is the time to speak godly wisdom into issues that all women face. As a matter of discipleship and evangelism, we have an opportunity to show how dependence on God is not only the path to true wisdom, but also to righteousness.

Christian Roommates - Preaching Without Words

If you are in a living situation with non-Christian roommates, you have an incredible opportunity to witness to your friends. The guiding light for your ministry should be the quote attributed to St Francis: "Preach always, use words when necessary." Let's examine this quote and see how it applies to sharing an apartment with non-believers.

First St Francis tells us to "Preach always." You are the light in your roommates' life. The key to this is consistency. Have a plan about what it means to preach to you roommates and follow it as frequently as possible. Do you avoid drinking? Do you skip parties? Are there certain movies and TV shows you want to avoid? There are loads of different ways to show your light and they don't always involve being the "stick in the mud." For instance, you could attend parties but always serve as the designated driver.

Secondly, St Francis notes that we should only "use words when necessary." The number one way to preach without using words is to simply listen. All of your roommates are going through difficulties. Do you know about them? Sit down with your roommate and just ask what is going on. Listen to their struggles and concerns. Don't bombard them with advice. Just listen. When the time is right to speak, the Holy Spirit will be there with words for you. These sessions are often just a great time to build your relationship with your roommate and give them a chance to get junk off their chest. And they're a fantastic avenue to eventually sharing the gospel with words.

Eventually, you will have built enough of a foundation that you may want to overtly mention Jesus or talk about the gospel. The best way to know when the time is right is to simply wait for your roommates to bring it up. If you've been consistently preaching through your actions, your roommates will eventually toss out a question about your faith. Be ready for this. Make sure you have good answers to the common questions.

Living with non-Christian roommates is tough. It's difficult to always put your best foot forward. But remember, let God work. Don't try to do it all on your own. You'll find that He does most of the work for you. You just have to be there.

Christian Values - Career Woman Or Helpmeet Wife?

What is more important? Should a Christian woman go to college to become a career woman or should she learn all she can about how to be a good helpmeet to her husband and stay happily married for life? I see much confusion and conditioning in the mainstream Christian culture of today. When career and money become more important than commitment and love many Christian people are being deceived.

You may be wondering how Christians are being deceived? Sometimes Christians are deceived without ever knowing it because they have already fallen into a worldly deception, whatever it might be. Perhaps it is the worldly deception of how a career woman is somehow better than a homemaker and a wife. Perhaps it is the lie that a man should allow his wife to boss him around for whatever reason circulating at the moment?

Who are Christians listening to? What are Christians watching? What are Christians reading? Where are Christians going? What do Christians believe in? In other words, what we allow into our heart and mind we generate within our belief system and we act on it and we become one with it. Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? (2 Corinthians 6:14)

God tells His children to separate themselves from unbelief and to not be yoked together with the world. This means to not let the world's standards, patterns, practices and methods of living undermine our faith and walk with Jesus. But when worldly views and attitudes become more important in our hearts than principle we have compromised ourselves as Christians. We are allowing ourselves to become yoked with the patterns and practices of the world!

Are some Christians allowing worldly values tell them how to live rather than God's standards for living? You bet they are. They are placing more importance on riches, careers and status than on marriage and family values. They are believing in worldly views and attitudes that actually take them away from God! When couples enter into marriage with wrong values, how on earth will their marriage ever stand up under that kind of pressure, hence the high rate of divorce.

This is why as Christ Ones we need to rebuild God's Kingdom by going back to His standards and principles for righteous living. Will a young Christian woman learn how to be a helpmeet to her husband by going to college? Absolutely not, in fact this will keep her from understanding her role as a wife in marriage and most likely she will always suffer through problem after problem in her marriage. It's all in the attitude of what a young girl has been conditioned into believing. Young girls are taught to go after a career, money, and status rather than value herself as a woman, wife and mother. Consequently this is where the feministic attitude comes into play.

Learning to be a good wife and mother takes considerable selflessness, humbleness and Godliness. We cannot have feministic attitudes and views if our goal is to be the wife and mother that God created us to be. A woman's calling as a wife and mother is not about her having a career that takes her away from her home, husband and children but exactly the opposite. How have we allowed ourselves to become so deceived into believing the standards, patterns, practices of this world are Christian based? How has this happened? I think it is time we turned our boats around and asked God to be our Captain.

As Christ followers we have to wise up and get back on the path that leads to God. The kingdom of heaven is here! Why are we living as if we are waiting for something? Have you entered Christ's kingdom or are you still living out the world's standards, practices and views for living? "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men." (Matthew 15:8-9)

Vaccine Awareness Event - August 2nd 2008

Carlton Pearson Gospel Music Artist and Pentecostal Minister

Carlton Pearson is a multi-talented gospel singer, Pentecostal minister in the United Church of Christ, linguist and scholar. A highly complex man, Pearson's early beginnings and spiritual development began to take shape when he attended the charismatic Christian Oral Roberts University, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he majored in Biblical Literature/English Bible. While attending the university, Pearson came under the stewardship of the American Pentecostal televangelist and founder of the university, Oral Roberts. Carlton later served 15 years as a member of the University's Board of Regents.

Pearson went on to create his own church, Higher Dimensions in Tulsa, Oklahoma and developed it, raising its membership to over 6000. By this time, through television, radio and publications, Pearson had developed a global and diverse audience of millions, embracing both secular and Christian fans.

A talented singer and performing gospel artist, Pearson brings the same qualities in his impassioned oratory and spiritual teachings to his music, inspiring fans with a mixture of intellect, wit, musical genius and humour. He has sold nearly a million recordings over the course of his career and his recording with his Higher Dimension Choir, along with other singles, secured Pearson two Stellar Awards and a Dove Award nomination.

Pearson has courted controversy over a series of strong religious views. One of these was over the Christian concept of hell, which he doubted when he suggested that souls are not necessarily destined to hell simply because they are non-Christians. Pearson espoused this idea, called the Gospel of Inclusion, triggering a furious debate. As a result of this controversy, the Joint College of African-American Pentecostal Bishops declared Pearson a heretic. Many other mainstream Christian leaders similarly made Pearson an outcast. Many of his congregation also objected at his church, Higher Dimensions, and over 80% of them left.

In 2006, with its membership greatly reduced to 1000 members, Pearson's Higher Dimensions church building was issued with foreclosure. The church renamed itself New Dimensions Church and began to congregate at the Trinity Episcopal Church, in Tulsa. Two years later, New Dimensions Church moved to All Souls Unitarian Church, also in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Later in the same year in September 2008, New Dimensions Church merged with All Souls Unitarian Church.

Pearson describes himself as a reformed "fourth-generation classical Pentecostal preacher" rather than an evangelical Pentecostal fundamentalist. An articulate and zealous exponent of the modern Pentecostal church, Carlton Pearson offers spiritual leadership not only in the United States but worldwide. Pearson provides a different approach on many subjects and while sometimes evoking consternation and reproach in some quarters, this multi-talented evangelist provides an alternative perspective on a spectrum of issues that confront Christians today.

Diploma, Certificate, Associate Degree, Or Bachelor's Degree - What's the Difference?

You're a high school grad or a working adult and you want to continue your education. You know that there are many different types of programs that lead to a certificate or diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, master's degree, or doctorate. What do these terms mean? How do you choose what's right for you? Here's the lowdown on the different levels of study offered by career schools, colleges, and universities.

Continuing Education: These are individual courses that are typically offered to working adults. Classes are often held in the evening or on weekends to accommodate students' busy schedules. Programs run the gamut-from cooking or painting to traditional liberal arts courses such as writing or history, and technical programs in auto repair or computers. Classes may last only one night, or continue over several weeks.

These classes do not lead to a degree or certificate. They are taken one at a time, for enjoyment, to acquire specific knowledge, or to help the student advance in the workplace. Sometimes, credits from continuing education courses can count towards a degree, if the institution is accredited.

Certificates and Diplomas: The terms are roughly interchangeable. Programs usually last one year, if courses are taken full-time.

For example, a typical medical assisting program will require the completion of 30 course credits. A course may count for anywhere from one to five credits, depending upon the duration and difficulty of the course. Most classroom courses count for three credits. Medical assisting programs often require the completion of four or five core subjects, such as an introduction or overview course, basic anatomy, and medical terminology. These count for twelve credits. An additional twelve credits must be earned in an area of specialty, such as administrative or clinical medical assisting. In addition, students must earn credits in a laboratory or clinical workplace environment.

Associate Degree: Taken full-time, most associate degree programs last two years.

For example, an associate of applied science in electronics and computer technology might require 71 credit hours. Courses might include communication skills (seven credits), humanities (three credits), social sciences (three credits), professional development (five credits), math and science (eight credits), electronic circuits (14 credits), digital computer systems (15 credits), electronics and controls (eight credits), and computer networks (seven credits).

Many community colleges offer two-year associate degree programs. Upon graduation, students may choose to continue their education by applying to a four-year college and earning their bachelor's degree during the next two years.

Bachelor's Degree: Taken full-time, most bachelor's degree programs take four years to complete when commenced after high school graduation or earning a GED. Some programs (such as engineering) may take five years.

A typical bachelor of science in business administration degree will require a minimum of 124 credit hours. Courses might include communication skills (15 credits), humanities (nine credits), social sciences (nine credits), professional development (five credits), math and science (12 credits), business core (36 credits), and 39 credits in a concentration such as accounting or sales and marketing.

Generally, in liberal arts colleges, students are required to concentrate on a major (English, math, history, chemistry). Credits may be tallied as semester hours. For example, a program in political science may require 44 semester hours of classroom study for graduation. That's about five and one-half hours per semester. Courses vary in how often they meet-seminars may meet only once a week, or others may meet twice a week.

Master's Degree: The next step after a bachelor's degree is a master's degree in a specific academic discipline. Programs typically last eighteen months to two years, although some colleges offer combined bachelor's-and-master's-degree programs that you can complete in five years. Increasingly, adults are earning their master's degrees online, particularly in business (MBA), psychology, religion, and education. Most master's degree programs culminate with a thesis or "capstone" project.

Doctoral Degree: The top rung of the educational ladder is the Ph.D or doctorate. The time frame tends to be flexible, because most doctoral candidates are working adults. Programs generally require a major research thesis that may take several years to complete. Doctoral programs are available online.

Choosing the Program That's Right for You

How can you decide what's right for you? The best way is to do your research online. Log onto a reputable college directory website. Browse through the schools and programs. Check out online programs, too. See if the schools are accredited and if they offer financial aid. When you've narrowed down your choices to the top four or five, then request free information. Once you've done your research you can apply to as many schools as you want. In less time than you think you'll be ready to enroll!

Faith When Hope Seems Hopeless

Why would a person keep doing something that is not succeeding? Because they believe in it and believe that they were called to accomplish that purpose in their life. An example is Edison inventing the light bulb (tried some 10,000 times before he found one that worked), William Wilberforce's efforts to abolish slavery in England (took many years to accomplish), or the relentless pursuit of cures for various diseases. How long have you been pursuing your calling? Are you achieving it or still working on it, or have you given up?

In John 11:17-37, Jesus had learned that His friend, Lazarus, was deathly ill and now goes to Bethany to deal with the situation. He already knows that Lazarus is dead. He also knows that it is dangerous for Him to be so near to Jerusalem when the religious leaders want Him killed. Why is He going to visit a dead man and risk His life in this way? What is He up to?

God's Agenda is not Always Man's Agenda - John 11:17-19
By the time Jesus arrives in Bethany, Lazarus has been dead for four days. Why did God let Lazarus die? Why is Jesus coming to grieve over someone who is dead when His own life is in danger? This is very close to Jerusalem. Are we going to be safe here?

We oftentimes spend enormous amounts of energy trying to figure out God before we begin simply doing what He calls us to do. Many times, God wants us to proceed and trust that He will provide what is needed by the time that it is needed. I have worked on writing these Bible lessons for twelve years as of this date and I am still waiting (while working) for it to grow into a ministry that is touching the lives of thousands and millions of Christians. But because I believe that this is what God called me to do, I haven't quit. God's agenda certainly hasn't been my agenda.

Jesus Always Offers Hope - John 11:20-22
When Jesus arrives, Martha comes out to meet Him before He even gets to the house. Even though Lazarus is dead, she believes, not only that Jesus could have prevented His death, but that God will still do something through Jesus by His simply asking. That is an affirmation of her faith in Jesus as the Christ (Messiah) and His power.

Even when life seems most hopeless, God can do what we would believe to be impossible. If we remember who God is and how much He loves us, we will be able to overcome any situation in life because in Him, there is always hope. There is nothing that God cannot do.

Death is Not the End - John 11:23-26
Jesus tells Martha that Lazarus will rise again. She believes in the resurrection of the dead, so she knows that he will live in eternity. What she doesn't believe or comprehend is that he will live again in this life.

It is not a tragedy when a Christian dies because we know that this person is now alive forever in Heaven with God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit. There is life after death and that is what gives us a peace about this life. We know that no matter how we die, but sudden health issue, slow health issue, accident or someone's criminal action, we have eternal life with God in a place where death and this world has no power. Death is not the end.

Faith Believes What It Cannot Prove - John 11:27-28
Martha affirms her faith in Jesus as the Christ (Messiah). The greatest evidence of Jesus's deity is still to be seen, but she believe based on what she knows at this point. After this, Martha goes and gets Mary to go see Jesus. All of this is a statement of her faith in Him as the Christ, the Son of God who can do all things. Nothing is said about raising Lazarus.

Faith is when you believe in something, even though there is not enough evidence to support that belief. All of us exhibit faith in other people, things or events. How much faith do you have in God to do what He promises He will do? How much would you be willing to risk if God asked something big of you?

Jesus Cares About Our Feelings and Needs - John 11:29-37
Mary comes out to Jesus and makes similar comments to what Martha made. The crowd of mourners doesn't know what is happening, so they follow close to Mary for emotional support. Jesus cares about Martha and Mary's feelings, as He also cares about Lazarus. He asks them to take Him to the gravesite. There, He is also overcome with grief and weeps for Lazarus. We may find this odd, considering who Jesus is, what He knows and what He is going to do. But it is important to note that He does have feelings, just like you and me and He cares about those things that we care about.

No matter what you are going through in your life, Jesus knows and cares very much. He may not prevent tragedy from happening to you, but He will be there with you as you go through it and will guarantee a future in eternity as long as you believe in and live for Him. This requires faith!

God bless you and have a great week!
