ADD-ADHD Medication Abuse and Addiction

Adderall is often prescribed to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD (as well as narcolepsy and depression) and is a drug that can help people sit down and focus who normally could not do so for long stretches of time. But Adderall or speed, has taken on a more sinister role as it has become popular on college campuses as a chemical study aid for all nighters before exams. One study suggested that as many as 1 in 5 college students had taken Aderall or its twin Ridalin to help them study at some point.

Speed

Aderall is an amphetamine, reformulated and repackaged, but very much like amphetamines that have been around for years. It is said that Jack Keroauc wrote On The Road on a 20-day Benzedrine binge (another amphetamine) on a 120-foot long scroll on his typewriter.

Effects

Adderall is a central nervous system stimulant and works primarily through the neurotransmitter, dopamine initially producing great results. Users say that they feel refreshed, more alert and energized and are able to concentrate and think faster and longer. It also has the effect of increasing heart rate, respiration and blood pressure. As with most amphetamines, what goes up must come down, and after a few hours of productivity there is a crash which is often expressed through irritability, vomiting, mental confusion and feelings of exhaustion. Although taken in the correct dosage under the supervision of a medical professional, Adderall can be an effective solution for some people, it does have a high potential for abuse as recognized by the FDA when it labeled it a Schedule II Controlled Substance (the same as Morphine.)

Risks

The potential problem with Adderall and amphetamines is that as usage becomes habitual, tolerance also increases requiring higher and higher doses of the drug for similar effects which can lead to addiction. And overdosing on Aderall can be fatal. In 2005, Canada went so far as to ban Adderall XR after linking it to 20 deaths and 12 strokes, although the ban has since been lifted. Amphetamines have also been linked in some cases to anxiety disorder, psychosis, and sexual dysfunction. Emergency medical attention should be sought if you experience any of the following symptoms: muscle twitches, hallucinations, delusions and irregular heart beat. Sudden heart attacks have been reported by some who showed no symptoms of prior heart problems.

Withdrawal

Furthermore, long-term use of Adderall can alter brain function permanently due to irregular blood flow to the brain which can lead to chronic convulsions and tremors. After prolonged and regular use of Adderall, stopping abruptly can also result in problems. People suffer from withdrawal symptoms including tiredness, crankiness, extreme hunger, nightmares and severe, often suicidal, depression. A gradual reduction is highly recommended. Because of the highly addictive potential of Adderall and its increasing availability, professional help may be required in the form of rehab or substance abuse therapy.

Expert College Football Picks That Will Escort You to the Winners Circle in 2009

College Football picks by an expert sports bettor can pave the way for a fruitful season. For the past 5 years, the majority of college football teams have been practicing an offensive pro style. This is quite appealing to the fresh talent leaping upward from high school. Offense or defense, the season is gearing up to be spectacular.

Offense Reigns Supreme.

Well if you are wondering how this can be turned into money, then this is how it works. If you observe the top 25 teams of the nation, you will notice that many teams take and impose an offensive and aggressive style of football, which implies; week after week, defenses are overmatch and at times, belittled. So a sports bettor, a pragmatic and resourceful one, can take advantage of this. The NCCA, unlike the NFL, does not have the caliber of athlete on every team.

There is more domination in college football. The NFL exhibits more parity because of revenue sharing and salary cap rules. This is why it is easier to assess the weakness and strengths of teams which could make you a weekly winner even though you may be favoring teams or betting on teams with substandard talent. You are just taking advantage of the situation. This is your world and it is revolving around you.

*Secrets

These teams that lag behind in defense will definitely not win the bowl series championship or any bowl games for that matter, but the right College Football picks will help you boost your income throughout the football season. Of course, this is not something you brag to your friends until after the season is over and once you have obtained a winning formula, this is something you keep close to your chest.

*Using Statistics

There are some statistics to support these trends. Otherwise, you will be able to spot these teams and make cash at the right time.
• The 20th ranked Florida State team has one of the most talented quarterbacks in college football.
Christian Ponder of Florida has completed 68 percent of his passes; has thrown for 2,717 yards, even though he was injured in the season's 9th game.
• The 19th ranked Arkansas Razorbacks is another team to watch out for. This team is shaped by the nation's best offensive strategists and coaches, led by Bobby Petrino.

*Final Note

With this information yielded properly, you should be able to capitalize on the right choice and escort yourself to the winner's circle.

Great Christian Home Based Business

If you've been looking for a great Christian home based business, you've probably looked into things like Network Marketing and MLM. My wife and I dabbled in this a little with a very good natural nutritional product company. But frankly neither one of us was very good at developing a downline, and that's where it seemed the really big money was.

Fortunately I heard about article marketing and blogging. So, just what is article marketing and why is it a great Christian home based business? This is a method where you write small articles for publication and discuss a product or service that you think will bring real value into your Christian brothers and sisters' lives. And there are hundreds of very valuable things out there on the internet that can really help people. Or perhaps it's just everyday things that people are buying anyway. When you get your articles published you add a link where your readers can read more about your product and then purchase it. And you can do a similar thing with blogging. Blogging is a little different in that it takes a little longer to get going but will lead to longer term passive income. That's why I use both for my home based business. The great thing is that both are free to start!

Now I'm no Shakespeare when it comes to writing but I read a book called "Write Like You Speak" and thought that sounded easy enough. I wrote a few articles for practice and it wasn't long before I got the hang of it. So, once I realized I could write well enough I started looking around for ways that would allow me to get paid for it. I needed a quick start method for developing my home based business. I bought a lot of electronic books before I found one that took me by the hand and showed me EXACTLY what to do, step-by-step. It was so simple that I think someone in grade school could follow it and become successful. My daughter belongs to a Christian group at school and I told her about it. College kids are always looking for ways to make extra money. If you're interested in a great Christian based business click the link in my author's box and I'll tell you more about this resource.

Tower of Hanoi

In this game problem, there are n different sized disks. Each disk has a hole in the center so that it can be stacked on any of the 3 pegs say x, y and z. At the beginning of the game, disks are stacked on peg x in such a way that largest sized disk is at the bottom and smallest sized disk is on top. All these disks should be transferred from peg x to peg z using peg y.

Rule of the game:

First, only one disk may be moved at a time. Second, only topmost disk can be moved. Third, while transforming disks from source peg to the destination peg, no larger disk should be placed on the smaller one. Fourth, each disk must be stacked on any one of the pegs.

To solve Tower of Hanoi problem while following the above rules, following logic has to be applied recursively---

Move top (n-1) disks from peg x to peg y.

Move the nth disk from peg x to peg z.

Move (n-1) disks from peg y to peg z.

Example- If n=3, then there are 3 disks-disk 1 (smallest), disk2 and disk3 (largest), which are stacked on peg x in this sequence. [Disk3 is at the bottom and disk1 is at the top.]

Following movements of disks should occur---

1. Move disk1 from peg x to peg z [X -> Z].

2. Move disk2 from peg x to peg y [X -> Y].

3. Move disk1 from peg z to peg y [Z -> Y].

4. Move disk3 from peg x to peg z [X -> Z].

5. Move disk1 from peg y to peg x [Y -> X].

6. Move disk2 from peg y to peg z [Y -> Z].

7. Move disk1 from peg x to peg z [X -> Z].

Recursive definition of Tower of Hanoi in C language:

void t_o_h (char from, char to, char other, int n)

{

    if (n = = 1)

        printf ( " Move from %c to %c " , from, to);

    else  {

        t_o_h (from, other, to, n-1);

        t_o_h (from, to, other, 1);

        t_o_h (other, to, from, n-1);

    }

}

This coding can be explained below point wise.

Values of formal parameters are stored in runtime stack in the form of activation records. With every function call, an activation of the function is created. This activation is implemented as 2 parts - a static code segment containing the executable code and constants and an activation record (which is the dynamic part) containing local data, parameters, function result data and various other data items. It is this activation record which is pushed in system-defined stack (runtime stack), each time function is called. When function returns, popping of activation record occurs. During function execution, contents of activation record constantly change due to assignments made to local variables (formal parameters also behave as local variables). Hence, it is dynamic (details not discussed here). Tower of Hanoi shown here is recursive function which makes repeated calls to itself using modified parameter list for each call. The process pushes a series of activation records on the stack until the stopping condition (base criteria) is reached. The subsequent popping of activation records gives the recursive solution.

In the following points, F stands for from (source peg). T stands for to (destination peg). O stands for other (intermediate peg). n stands for number of disks. Each point represents function call/return. Points 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 11, 12, 14 and 16 represent function call (push operation in runtime stack) and 3, 5, 7, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17 and 18 represent function return (pop operation in runtime stack).  Pegs written in bold signify the output movements.

Start:

Initial values of F, T, O and n are X, Z, Y and 3 respectively.

1. Values of F, T, O and n are X, Y, Z and 2 respectively by function call t_o_h (from, other, to, n-1).

2. Values of F, T, O and n are X, Z, Y and 1 respectively by function call t_o_h (from, other, to, n-1).

3. Values of F, T, O and n are X, Y, Z and 2 respectively.

4. Values of F, T, O and n are X, Y, Z and 1 respectively by function call t_o_h (from, to, other, 1).

5. Values of F, T, O and n are X, Y, Z and 2 respectively.

6. Values of F, T, O and n are Z, Y, X and 1 respectively by function call t_o_h (other, to, from, n-1).

7. Values of F, T, O and n are X, Y, Z and 2 respectively.

8. Values of F, T, O and n are X, Z, Y and 3 respectively.

9. Values of F, T, O and n are X, Z, Y and 1 respectively by function call t_o_h (from, to, other, 1).

10. Values of F, T, O and n are X, Z, Y and 3 respectively.

11. Values of F, T, O and n are Y, Z, X and 2 respectively by function call t_o_h (other, to, from, n-1).

12. Values of F, T, O and n are Y, X, Z and 1 respectively by function call t_o_h (from, other, to, n-1).

13. Values of F, T, O and n are Y, Z, X and 2 respectively.

14. Values of F, T, O and n are Y, Z, X and 1 respectively by function call t_o_h (from, to, other, 1).

15. Values of F, T, O and n are Y, Z, X and 2 respectively.

16. Values of F, T, O and n are X, Z, Y and 1 respectively by function call t_o_h (other, to, from, n-1).

17. Values of F, T, O and n are Y, Z, X and 2 respectively.

18. Values of F, T, O and n are X, Z, Y and 3 respectively.

KURTIS BLOW - " IF I RULED THE WORLD "

Kurtis Blow was born Curtis Walker on August 9, 1959, in Harlem, New York . He is known as one of the first commercially successful rappers and the first rapper to sign with a major record label. Curtis Walker got his public start in 1976 as a break-dancer and a block party DJ known by the name of Kool DJ Kurt. That same year he enrolled at the City College of New York and became a program director for the college radio station . Also in 1976, he joined a group called "The Force." Russell Simmons was a lead member of that group. The Force sponsored parties around Harlem until 1977, when Simmons moved the group to Queens, New York . After becoming an MC on his own, Kool DJ Kurt changed his name, with the persuasion of his manager Russell Simmons, to Kurtis Blow (as in body blow) . Kurtis began trying to sell himself as "the number one rapper in Queens," with Russell's help . For a short time Blow's regular DJ was Simmons' younger brother Joseph, who at the time was known as "DJ Run, the Son of Kurtis Blow." He later changed his name and went on to become the first third of Run-DMC "If I Ruled the World" was the last of Blow's hit songs. His mainstream reputation decreased as newer hip hop made his rap style seem old-school and outdated . He went on to record a song with Dexter King, son of Martin Luther King Jr., titled "King Holiday" in observance of the civil rights leader's holiday . Blow finally gave up his fast fading recording career, but in the early 90s, he ...

Defining the Ideal Christian Speaker for Your Event

Your group has a unique personality - as does every speaker. In fact, each event has a personality of its own. Before you begin your search for a speaker, you will want to clarify these details:

* What is the purpose of this event?

- Just for fun? You'll need an enthusiastic speaker with a sense of humor.

- Spiritual renewal weekend? You'll need theologically sound teaching balanced with personal stories, humor, and a listening pray-er.

- Ladies Night Out? Find a speaker who can match an encouraging Scriptural challenge to the interesting hobby/craft everyone will learn that night. Or, invite a speaker who can do both: teach a useful skill and provide spiritual wealth.

* What part of the program will be given to the speaker?

- One 20 minute section?

- Several 60 minutes sections?

* How much money can you afford to pay a speaker?

- Do you have a handsome budget?

- Could you charge for tickets with $1-3/ticket going to the speaker?

- Do you have generous givers who would respond to a love offering?

* How much of the program's success rests on the speaker?

- Does she need to be well known? Will people come if they don't recognize her name? Note: Well-known speakers are pricey and must be booked 1-3 years in advance.

- Could you select a seasoned speaker that is less well-known and be fine?

- If you invite a less-experienced speaker, but one that has a heart to speak and a story to share, could other aspects of the program make up for the lack of name recognition?

* Does her style and statement of faith match your group?

According to Answers.com, there are 57 different types of Baptist denominations alone-and that's just in the United States! When you consider all the other unique denominations, you begin to grasp the delicacy required in both finding the right speaker and being the right speaker. The key factors are:

1. Her statement of faith should match yours.

2. Her motivational gifts should match your needs.

3. It should be her practice to avoid triggering denominational hot buttons.

Once you nail down your needs and review your requirements, the next step is to actually find a speaker.

The #1 way to find a speaker is by word-of-mouth. However, when that pool runs dry, there are several speaker's directories for your convenience, the largest being the Christian Womens Speakers Directory online. As the webhostess of this amazing ministry, I work with hundreds of Christian Women Speakers who are available and eager to speak at women's events.

The Christian Women's Speakers Directory includes contact information for hundreds of Christian Women Speakers from every state, denomination and experience level. Most of these women are available for Weekend Retreats, Mother-Daughter Events, for MOPS, Aglow or Stonecroft meetings, and many are even available to small churches with very small speaker's budgets.

At the Christian Women's Speakers Directory, you will find a speaker, in your fee range, for your next event! You can search using a U.S. map, a site-specific search engine for topic words, denominations, and more, or by browsing the Gallery of Speakers featuring over 200 qualified speakers.

A speaker can literally make or break your event. It is imperative that you 1) know what you want and need, 2) find a speaker who fits that description and then, 3) communicate often so there are no surprises at the last minute.

English Speaking Schools in the Dominican Republic

If you are looking to relocate to the Dominican Republic, or even take long vacations, you might have an interest in the schools that are available. The DR has many English speaking schools, which makes the area a great draw for those who are looking to relocate.

People from other countries are coming to the Dominican Republic and enrolling their children in schools because of the great opportunities for learning and advancement the school system offers. Language is not a barrier in many of the schools in the DR, which means students from different backgrounds can learn in a way beneficial to them when enrolled in a school. There are many schools to choose from for those who are going to be in the DR for a prolonged period of time.

The Santiago Christian School in Santiago is a very unique school. This school is fully accredited by the United States, and all lessons are taught in English. Currently, approximately 75% of the students are from the DR, with the other 25% are from the United States.

This school has a curriculum taken from the Untied States educational system, and employees mostly American teachers. It teaches students from pre-k until graduation from high school.

Because of the curriculum of this school, students are able to easily get into college after they graduate. The courses are closely watched and they have to meet standards in multiple areas. This makes the Santiago Christian School a very good choice for those who are relocating to the area.

Puerto Plata has the Alic New World School. This school is bilingual, so it uses English and Spanish in order to teach. In addition, students can take French lessons. This school is a good choice for students who want to learn how to master multiple languages. Students are able to grasp different languages, which is important in the global business structure of today.

The Torre Alta Montessori School is also bilingual in English and Spanish. Students will learn both languages and be able to converse in them by the time they graduate from the school. Students are able to pick up on English and Spanish while attending this school.

The International School of Sosua allows students to earn a diploma from the United States or the DR. This school teaches in English and it only employees certified teachers. It has high standards for education, which makes it a good choice for those who plan on attending college after high school. It is important to go to a school that is recognized and respected, and students get just that when they attend this school

Santo Domingo has a bilingual school called New Horizons. This school teaches in English and Spanish, and uses a US curriculum. This is another great choice for those who intend on continuing their education.

It is very easy to integrate a family into the Dominican Republic. The schools make it possible to bring a family over to the country without sacrificing education. This has made the DR one of the most popular places to visit and move to in the world.

The educational standards of the Dominican Republic are very high, as long as the right school is selected. As with anywhere, there are schools that do not live up to the standard, but those are the exception to the rule. You will be able to find a school that meets your educational requirements in the DR.

You will also be able to take advantage of a bilingual education, which is very helpful as the world changes. Now, it is more important than ever to know more than one language, and the schools in the Dominican Republic help with that.

Help! My Christian Wife Cheated on Me

If you're a husband whose Christian wife has cheated on you, it's critical that you give yourself the space and time to prayerfully and constructively work through your emotional pain and deal with your situation the way God wants. Here are my suggestions:

1. Give Yourself the Freedom to Hurt

Forget the "John Wayne" tough guy - macho nonsense. If your wife has cheated on you, chances are that you're hurt. Probably crushed. If so, it's okay to feel that pain and that hurt. Don't feel like you're somehow less of a man, if you're jealous, hurt, crushed, or whatever by this experience. It's normal. Give yourself the freedom to feel that pain.

2. Pray

In I Samuel, Hannah describes her prayer as "pouring her soul out before God." David speaks of prayer similarly in the psalms. This is where you need to pray -- pray with all your heart -- before God. And in this case, you're not just sending up quick prayers to ask God for relief. Prayer is spending time with God. Make sure you understand that -- prayer is spending time with God. Take time with God as you go through this.

3. Meditate on the Right Things

Don't underestimate this one. I remember a time that I was painfully hurt in a relationship while in college. Rather than give it to God, I chose to turn it over and over in my mind. I was constantly thinking about the situation, making it all the more painful. I was living in a "mental dungeon," and it was mostly my doing. Don't go down that road.

Acknowledge the situation. Acknowledge the hurt. But YOU control where your thoughts go. No one else can. You control your mind. And it's time to take Paul's advice. In Philippians 4, Paul writes: "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things."

I know it's difficult - VERY difficult, in fact - but you must do it. It takes hard work and discipline, but you can and must control what your mind thinks about.

4. Seek pastoral and then professional counsel

Any marriage that has experienced an affair needs help. You are not a failure to seek that help. If you're not a part of a good Bible-believing church, get involved in one. Then, set up a meeting with your pastor. Lay out your situation. Ask for prayer. Get some recommendations from him on good, solid, professional Christian counselors in your area. And then take advantage of those resources.

May God bless you during this very difficult time.

Larry Wessels, director of Christian Answers/Christian Debater (BibleQuery.org, HistoryCart.com & MuslimHope.com) debates Steve McCalip, author & producer of "KingJamesVideoMan," on the subject of WHO did Jesus die for. Bob L. Ross, leading publisher of Charles Haddon Spurgeon (please check official website: boblross.com), is the moderator. Educational backgrounds of debaters: Wessels- Bachelor of Science in Advertising from the University of Texas at Austin, completed extension course taught by Dr. JI Packer of Regent College, Vancouver, Canada, studied virtually every book or tape produced by Walter Martin of the Christian Research Institute & Dr. RC Sproul of Ligonier Ministries, worked with Pilgrim Publications (CH Spurgeon) since 1990, attended Dayspring Fellowship of Austin, Texas (Pastor Jackson Boyett, www.dayspringchapel.org) since 1982. Changing Your Organization's Name

Names are a central feature of our lives. In a very real sense without names we are unknowable. Names tell us Who and What, sometimes even Where.

Use of a person's name signals some contact with or knowledge of that person. To "know" a person is to know their name, even if prefaced by "Mr." or "Miss" or "Mrs." To know a person well is to use his or her first name. To know a person very well is to use a nickname or some other endearing personal term. Americans name people, places, things, and organizations for deeply philosophic reasons, frivolous purposes, and practical concerns. We sometimes give organizations multi-worded names because the words create a meaningful acronym, e.g., Mothers Against Drunk Driving, MADD. Or we choose a name simply because it's unique and we like the sound of it, e.g., Google.

For most Americans, names are practical if not always philosophical.

In ancient times, people bestowed names for all these reasons too, with the possible exception of acronyms. But usually people in ancient cultures gave names because the name had some special meaning. Names were more than a label.

Names were often given as a symbol of some significant event or characteristic in the life of the person. Names frequently represented the essential nature of a person and could reveal some aspect of a person's innermost being. Eve was the "mother of all living." Names were often changed in Bible times to signify some new beginning. Abram became Abraham, and Sarai became Sarah. Jacob became Israel. A newborn baby was named, Ben-oni, "son of sorrow" by a dying mother, Rebekah, but quickly renamed Benjamin, "son of the right hand," by a loving father, Jacob. Jesus renamed Simon, the rough fisherman, Peter.

Name changes were part of the history of the college I was privileged to lead for a few years: Grand Rapids Baptist College and Seminary (GRBC&S). In 1941, an evening Bible school was founded with the name Grand Rapids Baptist Bible Institute. With growth in students and the educational program the name was changed in 1959 to Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary. Later, the term "Theological" was dropped when Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary was established as a separate but related graduate school with the same Board of Trustees and president.

In 1972, the college's name was changed again from Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College to Grand Rapids Baptist College. This new name described the expansion of the academic program from a Bible college curriculum (featuring Bible and Music majors) to a Christian liberal arts college curriculum (featuring Bible, Music, History, Biology, English, Business Administration, Education, and several other majors). But the new name still suffered some limitations. For example, it was geographically restricted to one city. The school's long-standing nickname continued as "Baptist College," which tended to send the message that non-Baptists need not apply. And the school's name was still regularly confused with the former name or a derivative, Grand Rapids Bible College, or the more convoluted Grand Rapids Baptist "Church."

This name confusion was particularly problematic because it tended to perpetuate the earlier mission of the institution as a Bible rather than Christian liberal arts college. So in spring 1992, the Board of Trustees once again authorized a study for the consideration of an institutional name change. Following a preliminary review, the Board of Trustees in the fall 1993, voted to implement a process for determining the best name for Grand Rapids Baptist College. At that time, the Board also voted to maintain the name, Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary.

One of the wisest decisions the Board ever made was to allow me, the president at the time, to announce the Board's decision immediately, to announce it as a "study" as opposed to a name-change fiat accompli, and to announce it as a study to consider what might be the "best name" for the school. On a political level this meant several things: that constituents heard about a possible name change without being cut out of the process, which gave many of them time to acclimate, and that people who thought the old or current name, GRBC, was the "best name" were not cut out of the process, because it was still possible the Board would ultimately reaffirm that name.

During the next several months, students, personnel, constituents, and the public were invited to submit name ideas or suggestions. Perhaps the most amusing submission was the name "Hobbes," for the political philosopher Thomas Hobbes. This created a local joke in that Calvin College, a quality institution of higher learning, is located just three miles from GRBC&S on the same road. Had the Board selected Hobbes as the new college name, locals would have forever referred to "Calvin and Hobbes" on East Beltline Ave.

In March, 1994, the GRBC&S Board of Trustees reviewed about one hundred and thirty names in four categories: geographic, theological, historical, denominational, reduced the list to three names including GRBC, and finally decided to rename the college, "Cornerstone College." The name Cornerstone College accomplished the practical need for a name that reduced confusion about the college's mission. But it was also philosophically anchored in Christian symbolism and biblical meaning.

In Ephesians, Paul refers to Christians as "members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord" (2:18-21). Jesus is the "tested stone" who makes "justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line" (Isaiah 28:16-17). Jesus Christ is the "living Stone" and Christians, "like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house...through Jesus Christ...a chosen and precious cornerstone" (1 Peter 2:4-9).

A cornerstone is also the key building stone or block in a foundation by which all other stones or blocks are measured. A cornerstone speaks of the permanency of values like truth, faith, beauty, virtue, righteousness, justice, liberty, peace, and love.

By any objective measure the new Cornerstone name was an unqualified success. It was quickly if not immediately embraced by students, and the area business community and the public responded to it with admirable enthusiasm. Alumni reaction was at first mixed, as is to be expected for any collegiate name change, but in a relatively short time most alumni signed on. The primary value in the new name was its message that a new wind was blowing at the institution, one that looked forward and positioned the school for the future.

In fall 1998, after an internal academic process and interaction with appropriate state authorities, the Board of Trustees voted to change the name of the school again, this time from Cornerstone College to Cornerstone University. In the same meeting the Board and administration agreed to announce the new status in April, 1999, not knowing the school's basketball team would win the NAIA Division II National Men's Basketball Championship in March of that year. This unplanned public relations gift created a media platform much larger than would have otherwise been available because a national championship is notable and rightly attracts attention on any level of sports.

The university avoided a backlash from those who might have dismissed the change as a cheap grab for the brass ring, probably because, in the end, it made sense. The university had been growing, the national championship didn't hurt, and a well-conceived marketing campaign attracted positive attention. The campaign featured billboards around the city showing one small shoot of green springtime corn in a plowed field, the new name, and the phrase "Think Big, Think Bigger." Simple. People understood it, and they liked it.

Organizational name changes are not to be entertained lightly. Nor should they be avoided at all cost, because the cost may be lost potential or even premature demise of the organization. Name changes offer an un-matched opportunity to send a message to constituents, clients, or the general public. New initiatives, new products, new services, or better yet, a new and worthy vision can be writ large in people's minds when an organization changes its name.

What's in a name? Your organization's future.

Life experience degrees are becoming increasingly popular for the many people who want to receive credentials for credible work, experience, education and skills. There are many professionals who do not have a graduate or undergraduate degree in their field of work and find life experience degrees appealing. They have excelled and have the experiential knowledge of their degreed counterparts who receive more pay and more status only as a result of a college diploma. A life experience degree provides recognition for personal and professional achievements through many online life experience degree programs.

If you are tired of not getting that promotion just because you do not have a graduate degree, a life experience degree may provide the boost you need to succeed. Perhaps you want to increase your earning potential by adding a life experience degree to your personal resume. Life experience degrees are offered online by many credible educational institutions. Life experience degrees in the areas of business, education, fine arts, and sciences can be acquired. There are many other specialized life experience degrees from which to choose among the many undergraduate and graduate life experience degree levels.

A life experience degree can be obtained through online sources usually within a short period of time. Sometimes in as little as two weeks, you may be awarded a life experience degree in the field of your expertise. The cost of life experience degrees is reasonable, usually not more than a few hundred dollars, depending on the degree program and the requirements. You may apply for a life experience degree online by filling out an application form provided by many life experience degree schools. Requirements for life experience degrees are based on the amount of formal education you may have already obtained, the length of time you have invested in your chosen field, and your professional skill level obtained.

Life experience degree applications also take into consideration any community achievements, any awards you may have received, and other personal and professional successes. A special educational board from the life experience degree source is equipped to analyze and access the application. Most life experience degrees can be expected to be conferred within a couple of weeks, if all goes well. Many online life experience degree institutions are accredited by the Association for Online Academic Excellence. AOAE is a private accrediting agency that insures educational excellence and consistent standards for online learning. "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." Romance and Race in the Jim Crow South

Emory University's Oxford College observed Emory Founders Week with a lecture by Dr. Andrew Urban, community research postdoctoral fellow with Emory University's Transforming Community Project. The lecture, entitled "Romance and Race in the Jim Crow South: Yun Ch'i-ho and the Personal Politics of Christian Reform," focused on Yun, who came to Emory, on the campus that is now Oxford College, in 1891 as a member of the 1893 graduating class. The lecture explored Yun's personal experiences at Emory and the observations he made during travels throughout Georgia and the South. His detailed diaries and personal correspondence touch on a wide-range of topics such as interracial dating, his views on Southern race relations and the social and moral obligations that white Christians had toward African Americans, and how Southerners reacted to his presence - as the first Korean most had ever encountered. The lecture also assessed how Yun's treatment at Emory, and the personal tumult he experienced while in Georgia, may have influenced his later views and politics concerning race, missionary work and colonization, and Korean independence. Andy Urban received his PhD in US History from the University of Minnesota. He joined Emory University's Transforming Community Project as a postdoctoral research fellow in 2009. In addition to his research on Yun Ch'i-ho and the involvement of Emory faculty, administrators, and alumni in Southern Methodist missionary work in Asia, Urban teaches a ...

What to Look For In Christian Cruises

For Christians who want more from a vacation, Christian cruises can be a good choice. These cruises combine the fun and relaxation of ordinary cruises with an attitude of Christian fellowship. Yet, they are not all the same; it takes some research to know if you are getting the cruise you want.

Will all the passengers be a part of the Christian cruise?

Sometimes, the cruise will be an ordinary cruise where you are one of a group of Christians on board. There will be accommodations for you to eat together and possibly to have cabins adjacent to each other. There will be activities such as Bible studies, seminars, and gospel singing for you to enjoy.

However, the cruises that are chartered solely for the use of Christians are much different. On these cruises, the whole ship is set up with the needs of the Christians in mind. The bars, theaters, and casinos will be set up for Christian uses. The bars will serve a variety of non-alcoholic drinks. There will be no smoking areas in public places.

The theater will only show Christian theater shows. Only Christian comedians will take to the smaller stages, instead of the usual worldly comedians. The singers and musical groups are gospel-based. In fact, all the entertainment revolves around Christianity.

What Christian activities are available on the cruise?

Some cruises are centered on a theme, such as a bible study cruise. Some are more focused on who will be on the cruise, such as a particular speaker or lecturer. Many times, you will have the opportunity to hear a series of lecturers on one cruise. It is good to know the preachers who will be speaking and to find out something about them before you commit to a cruise.

There will probably be a Christian bookstore of some kind set up where you can buy Bibles, books written about the Christian faith, or souvenirs with a Christian twist. There should also be times for the group to get together for fellowship on the ship. Especially if it is not a chartered ship, you will need these times to get to know your fellow Christian passengers better.

The cruise should include the Christian activities of Bible study, gospel singing or praise singing, and prayer services. Beyond that, it should have chances for you to have wholesome fun with the other Christians on board. After all, that is part of what going on one of these cruises is all about.

Christian cruises can be unforgettable experiences. You would feel cheated if you could only remember it with disappointment. However, if you take the time to research the cruise you are going on, you will be looking back on your cruise with pleasure.
