Many College Students Enrolled in Journalism Degree Courses, But Where Will They Work?

One of the most popular degree-programs at the local University near me is journalism. Believe it or not there is actually a waiting list to get into this academic program here. Now mind you we have one of the top universities in journalism out here in California, but one has to ask where on Earth are all the students going to work when they get out of school with their degree?

There are no newspapers hiring right now, in fact they are cutting all of their journalist, and reporters. Worse, many newspapers are now buying artificially intelligent software, and you merely plug in the; who, what, when, where, and how; and the software program writes the article for you. You can hire someone for $7 an hour to run that program; so much for paying off student tuition bills.

In the magazine industry, well they are not exactly batting 1000 either, and there're so many authors now writing books that the publishing field is so diluted no one is making any money; the fact is these journalism students will not be needed.

Now it gets worse, but I suppose you are thinking, that there is merely a shift in journalism from paper to online writing; and whereas, it is true that more and more people are writing online, and more people are getting their news from the Internet, there are also 10 times as many people willing to write for $10-$15 per articles.

A journalist can't make any money doing that, and a veteran writer wouldn't stoop that low or prostitute themselves out at those prices. Once again, I wish to ask; where will the students work once they get out of school with all that debt from college tuition loans?
